The Retreat Master
Sister Mary Rachel Nerbun, RSM, MD entered the Religious Sisters of Mercy of Alma, Michigan in 1998 and professed perpetual vows in 2006. The Religious Sisters of Mercy were originally founded in 1831 in Dublin, Ireland, by Venerable Catherine McAuley, with an apostolate grounded in the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. They were re-founded in 1973 and now number eighteen convents across the globe, including Jackson, Minnesota. The community has Sisters in professional disciplines, including health care and education, with Sisters serving in a variety of professions. Sister Mary Rachel attended George Washington University School of Medicine, graduating in 2006, and completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut in 2009. She has practiced internal medicine at Sacred Heart Mercy Health Care Centers in Alma, Michigan and Jackson, Minnesota
and recently moved to Washington, DC for a Master’s program in Theology at the Dominican House of Studies, while continuing to work part time as an Internist.
